The Kindergarten is part of
the Immersion Programme
which consists of three stages
that are comparable to the U.K.
system:
-
Early Years - Kindergartin 2 and
3
-
Key Stage 1 - Prathom 1 - 2
-
Key Stage 2 - Prathom 3 - 6
The Kindergarten English Programme
focuses on increasing the
children’s phonological awareness,
teaching the children appropriate
vocabulary, developing their
speaking and listening skills and
helping them to form upper and
lower case letters correctly. Our
objective is for the pupils become
familiar with English and gain
confidence through regular English
and Physical Education lessons
taught by a qualified Native
English speaker teacher.
In Kindergarten 2 children are
encouraged and taught to speak in
English using correct
pronunciation and grammar, through
a wide range of structured and
informal learning activities e.g.
rhymes, games, stories, language
patterns, imaginative role-play
situations, poems, songs and
chants.
Throughout Kindergarten 3 we begin
to teach Literacy in a more formal
way in order to prepare the
children for Prathom 1. The
children have the opportunity to
borrow books from the class
libraries that help them to learn
and practise using phonics, as
well as recognizing sight words
and high-frequency words. In this
year more emphasis is put on
acquiring correct letter formation
and beginning to write simple
words and sentences.
The children study English in half
class size groups with the Thai
classroom teachers providing
support during each lesson. The
small size of the group allows
individual attention and the
chance for the teacher to interact
with each child. Individual
reports are made on each pupil at
the end of the semester, and these
are passed on to the Prathom
teachers at the end of KG3.
