Hello,

Welcome back to all the students for semester two, we are hoping that this semester can be as interesting and successful as the first one.

Language Arts:  We had a busy time in Language Arts last semester. We began by looking at a variety of traditional stories such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks. Also we learnt all about what makes a good explanation text and were able to use a variety methods to explain different processes, from how cheese is made to how a sunflower grows.

Maths: We continued to look at word problems and had a go at using different methods and techniques to solve different problems. We started to look at fractions and identifying fractions of different shapes and numbers. This semester we’ve started work on symmetry.

The students worked in pairs to create symmetrical patterns  of their own.

Science: In Science we were looking at how plants grew well. P2 planned and investigated what plants need in order to grow well and in the end we even had a go at growing our own beans. We also had a whole week where we looked at ‘how things fly’. We had lots of fun testing kites, designing new vehicles that we thought would fly and we even made our own parachutes.

These are some ideas of how we could improve planes.

This is what we decided is most important for flying.

Theme:  We took a step back in time to learn all about the Tudors. We were able to use pictures and sources to gain a good insight into what the Tudor times were like. P2 also compared the rich and poor people in Tudor times to see how life was like for different people in those days.
