Welcome to the new term, we hope you enjoyed your holiday. We are really looking forward to the second part of the year because we have many events to look forward to such as, P1 Field Trip, UN Day and Sports Day.

We are very pleased to welcome Mrs Sophai back to Amnuay Silpa and it is great to have her on the P1 Team.

We would like to share with you a brief overview of the core subjects we are studying.

Phonics

The children are studying phonics using a programme called ‘Letters and Sounds’. The children are currently at Phase 4 which involves the following -:

·         Practise recall and recognition of Phase 2 and 3 graphemes – ch, sh, ng, th, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er;

·         Practise spelling CVCC and CCVC words, C = Consonant V = Vowel;

·         Learn tricky words and use them in their writing;

·          Spelling high frequency words;

·         Practise reading and writing sentences.

Phase 4 is a recap phase so your child will already know the sounds, although there will be new words for them to learn.

The children learn phonics through games and activities each morning in homeroom. Also the children learn and sing songs as part of their phonics learning.

Literacy

We have started this semester in Language Arts by looking at Information texts. We have been looking at main features of Information Texts such as contents pages, diagrams and headings. We have studied a text on sharks this week, which the pupils seem to find very interesting.  This topic allows us to incorporate many Thinking Skills in our Literacy lessons as well as lots of partner games and speaking activities. We are working to producing a non-fiction Information Text at the end of the module. If you would like any more information about this module in terms of objectives, please feel free to follow the link below.

Mathematics

This next 2 weeks in Maths we will mainly be learning:

Wk start 08.11.10

WALT use mental addition to solve simple problems and puzzles is the basic walt for the week. So the students will do problem solving games like sudoko, trios and dice games using mental addition.They will be asked to explain how they got their answers.

Wk 15.11.10

WALT derive and recall multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times table and to recognise multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

Basically we will be teaching the students about the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

We will use lots of hands on/interactive games so that we will fully engage and so that they will have fun whilst learning. etc etc etc

Theme Studies

This semester we have started studying about the seaside places around Bangkok. We will be contrasting  this with Bangkok and looking at the different localities to see what are the differences between them. We will also be looking at different seaside spots around the world and what happened at the seaside in the past.

On November 30th we will be visiting Bang Saen Beach to finish this topic.
