The second
term has been very busy for
Kindergarten 3, alongside our
regular lessons we have had the
opportunity to have several
special events and days.
Here is a brief round up of all
the special things we have been
doing.
Trip to
Safari World
In term
1 all of the children have been
learning about different animals
that live in a zoo.
So the children could see and
learn more about the animals and
how they live we went to
SAFARI WORLD!

There
are lots of attractions for the
children to see, such as all the
show. The children got to see a
few of the animals in the show,
such as the monkey, elephant and
dolphins.
|

All of
the children loved the Orangutan
show!!
|
|

The
children also got to go on a
Jungle Walk around the safari
and see all the animals in their
enclosures.
|

Next the
children got to go on a Safari
in a Jeep.
We saw
lots of different animals, such
a Zebra, Giraffe, Lions and
Deer. It was very exciting
because we got to see the lions.
The
children saw lots of different
animals and had great fun
talking about them on the way
home.

The kindergarten 3 children took
part in the whole school science
week. They looked at science
through how people use it in the
different occupations that they
do. This gave them the
opportunity to be helicopter and
airplane pilots, sea captains,
chefs and doctors and see how
they used science.
We
investigated a different
occupation each day.
As airplane pilots the children
investigated the making and
flying of paper airplanes. They
had great fun, measuring and
recording how far their planes
flew. They then went on to
produce graphs comparing they
different results.
As
chefs the children investigated
the changing materials. They
made icing watching it change
from a solid to a liquid and
back again. They then used
their icing to decorate
biscuits. The best bit of
course was when they got to eat
their creations!

As helicopter pilots we made and
flew helicopters. Going down
into the playground to launch
our helicopters of the highest
point so that we could see how
much they rotated and how they
fall slower than just a piece of
paper.

As doctors
the children investigated how
the left and right sides of
their bodies are not equal.
Trying to write with both hands
the children discovered that
they had a dominant side which
they prefer to use and find
easier to use.
As sea
captains the children
investigated what things float
and sink. They also used
modelling clay to find out if
the shape of an object affected
whether it floated or sank.
They were also invited to make
boats as a homework project.
The best project from each year
group then got the opportunity
to go to Sea World. The
floating of the boats was great
fun, and Mr Pine came and judged
the winning boat.

The week was a great success and all the children enjoyed learning more about the science all around them.
Presentations
Y1.1
For
our end of term presentations we
sowed some of the excellent work
we have been doing in our
class. The show was based
around a weather theme. We read
some poems about the weather and
showed some pictures we had
previously made. We also sang
some nursery rhymes about
weather like ‘Incy Wincy
Spider.’ I was very happy with
the way the show went and was
glad the parents enjoyed it.
The children have made real
progress in their ability to
communicate to an audience and
doing presentations like this
helps to develop their
confidence and build social
skills.

Incy Wincy Spider,
Climbed up the water spout,
Down came the rain,
And
washed the spider out

For our end of term
presentations, we also sang the
lion hunt song. We talked about
our favourite animals and
everybody said something about
their favourite animal. The
children had lots of fun making
masks and dressing up for the
show. I was very happy with the
improvement the children are
showing in their confidence when
they speak English, and I think
they deserve a lot of praise for
working hard to make the show a
success.
Y1.3
For our end of term
presentation, we had lots of fun
singing counting rhymes like ‘1,
2, buckle my shoe’ and ‘when I
was three, I went to sea’.
All the children enjoyed showing
their parents some of the new
songs and rhymes they have been
learning. We also sang the
song ‘We’re going on a lion
hunt.’ The children
especially enjoyed making all
the appropriate sound effects
and actions for this song.
I was very happy that the show
was a success, and that the
parents enjoyed the performance.
I think the children can give
themselves a lot of credit for
this success and I am very happy
with the confidence they are
showing in their spoken English.

We’re
going on a lion hunt,
And
we’re not scared
